General Notes:
In 1907 she was living in St. Paul, according to her mother's obituary. Obituary: Carrie E., daughter of James and Elizabeth Welsh, was born March 21, 1870, at Brussels, Ontario, Canada, and passed away at the Asbury Hospital at Salina, Kansas, on March 27, 1949, at the age of 79 years and 6 days. In 1873 she moved with her parents to St. Paul, Nebraska where she grew to womanhood. She was converted in 1892 and joined the Methodist Church. Later she joined the Free Methodist Church and served as a faithful member until her death. She was a devoted, loyal, Christian and ever faithful to her Lord. In 1886 she ws joined in marriage to Joseph Frain, who preceded her in death in 1907. In 1909 she was married to Rev. F. E. Eaton and together they served as Pastor and District Superintendent for several years in the Platte River Conference of the Free Methodist Church in Nebraska. Rev. Eaton went to his reward in 1926. A year later she was united in marriage to Rev. A. F. Smith where she so ably took the place of Mother in helping him rear his four motherless children. Here again she served as Pastor's wife for several years in the Nebraska Conference. Rev. Smith retired from the ministry in 1935. On April 12, 1945, Mrs. Smith was stricken with arthritis and from that time on she was confined to her bed. She was faithfully cared for by her husband until the time of his death on August 20, 1948. All through her illlness she was cheerful and inspiring to those who visited her, giving words of kindness and encouragement. She prayed earnestly and her faith was strong in God. She leaves to mourn her loss four step-children: Mrs. Evelyn McAllaster of Wilmore, Kentucky; Mr. Harold R. Smith, Sunflower, Kansas; Mrs. Lola McCray, Lawrence, Kansas, and Mrs. helen Johnson of Salina, Kansas. Besides the children and grandchildren she leaves several nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends. Sister Smith will always be remembered for her generous service to the Women's Missionary Society and for her untiring efforts to the church and to the people in need.
