  General Notes:

"The family story that is told about William is that he was sent to this country with his brother, Matthew. Somehow they considered him an embarrassment to the family (just why isn't known). The family is said to be related to Queen Victoria and their father's name was Ezra Grindel of Yorkshire, England." "William migrated from Yorkshire, England, to Ontario Canada in the early 1850's" p.182 landing in Toronto (p. 183) "The family immigrated in 1872 (from Ontario to Nebraska) settling in what eventually became the Cairo area." p. 181

"Mercy died in 1880 and is buried in the Berwick Cemetery. They were the parents of fourteen children. William then married again to a school teacher. Three children were born to them, two of whom died of diptheria in 1884. His wife then left him and returnedw with her remaining child, Walter, to her family to make her home with them in Broken Bow."

William married Mercy Wilson about 1856 in Canada. (Mercy Wilson was born in 1837, died in 1880 in Cairo, Hall Co., Nebraska and was buried in Berwick Cemetery, Cairo, Nebraska.)

William next married Mrs. Hodgson after 1880 in Nebraska.
