lived in Kearny, Nebraska Letter written July 12, 1969 to Dorothy Petrie following Nora Welsh hammer's death: Dear Dorothy,
Thank you for writing.
I came to Cheyenne to Laferne's a short time ago. Nelle had called my sister in Denver and told her of Nora's death, so Irene told me when I saw her a few days before your letter arrived.
There aren't many of our generation left; Fred & Nelle and my three sisters and myself.
I had a note from Nora about two or three months ago. She wasn't well when she wrote. But thankful she could live in her apartment. Laferne and Curtis are the same age. Her birthday is June 23rd and Curtis's is a day or two earlier or later. Have forgotten which.
I always enjoyed Nora's letters. She kept me posted as to the whereabouts of many friends and relatives. Walter and I always tried to see her when we went to Michigan. We always knew we were welcome.
I spend most of my time in California. Have three daughters there and Laferne in Cheyenne. Her husband will retire in a year and they will return to Grand Island, Nebr. The summers are wonderful here. No air conditioning. But winters quite unpleasant.
I will miss her good letters. She and I attended the St.Paul College together. My father would take me to Uncle Fred's on Sunday eve and then she and I would go to St. Paul by train; we did this many times. I have pleasant memories of my association with Nora.
Haven't talked with Nelle yet. Will go to Denver for a while in about three weeks and will go to see her then. My sister says she isn't very well.
Have wondered how Fred is. He and Walter were quite close. My husband was Walter not Arthur.
