Background

I grew up here in Rochester , New York , attending Churchville-Chili High School . I graduated with distinction from Monroe Community College with an A.S. degree in Liberal Arts. At Penn State University I earned my B.S. degree in Math and Computer Science. It was at MCC that I first picked up the piccolo, which in turn lead to a successful audition for the marching and concert bands at Penn State .

Upon graduation from college, I was fortunate to find many community bands and orchestras to play in over the years (the Kettering Community Band of Dayton, Ohio; locally the Brighton Symphony Orchestra, the Greece Symphony, the orchestra of Browncroft Community Church , the Perinton Concert Band and the Greece Concert Band.) I have been part of the Silvertones Flute Choir for over 20 years. Now I play the alto, bass and E-flat flutes because of my experience in the Silvertones Flute Choir.

In addition, I also perform with the Genesee Valley Orchestra & Chorus, the Caprice Trio and my church's praise team (where I play contemporary Christian music and am learning to improvise!) Irish music is also an interest of mine; I attend Irish ‘seisiuns' where I have learned all sorts of Irish tunes. There you are as likely to find me playing on a pennywhistle as well as the flute. A background in both classical and Irish music has provided me many opportunities to perform in the Rochester area.

Although my life has undergone many changes in direction over the years, I have always made time available for playing the flute. It has remained an avid interest of mine that I find I cannot do without. I continue to learn more about music, and enjoy sharing my discoveries with my students.
