Legends of Dodge County

The material was first compiled in an English class at Triton Senior High School, Dodge Center, Minnesota. Students collected these tales and legends from persons living in Dodge County. Being a collection of legends, no attempt at historical verification was attempted. Reprinted below is a sample of some of the legends from the original booklet.

Legends: Legends are often believed by the tale-tellers to be true. Legends may grow up around historical persons, either well-known or local characters, or around actual events---fires, plagues, or famines. Legends usually involve actual place names or geological formations. Legends are, unfortunately for those who wish more information, usually fragmentary.
