Relationships

INTASC Standard #10: The teacher fosters relationships with school colleagues, parents, and agencies in the larger community to support students' learning and well-being.

During the summer of 1998 I conducted a fund drive to benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester, NY. It was held during the annual canal days in Spencerport, NY. I had members of the St. John's junior and senior high youth group help run the drive. It was a success. We collected many items and over a hundred and fifty dollars from spare change.

While I was at my second student teaching placement the students were in the middle of a project that included conducting an interview. Four of the students' projects were on basketball. St. Bonaventure's Basketball team is very popular in the area and the students were very big fans. I arranged to have a basketball player come and have lunch with these students while they interviewed him.
