INTASC Standard #4: The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage students' development of critical thinking, problem solving and performance skills. During my Second Students teaching placement I taught Sixth grade language arts. I taught a unit on the book From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg. I used many different teaching styles in the unit. Once of the projects that the students did was to make a newspaper about the story. They worked in groups of three and made one page for every two chapters. On each page the students had to write a news story, a letter to the editor and draw an editorial cartoon. I organized who was to do what so that each student will have an opportunity to do each item instead of the same one each time. |
