INTASC Standard #5: The teacher uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.

During my second student teaching placement  I taught a unit on the book From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg.  The story takes place in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.  The students did a project that included making their own museum exhibit on their own topic.  They worked with partners for this project.  They also did a newspaper project that was done in groups of three.  Both of these projects turned out well.

Here are some pictures of the museum exhibits that the students made.  They picked their own topics and had to make a museum exhibit and a pamphlet to go with it.  The pamphlet included a summary of the exhibit and a list and description of at least ten items in their exhibit.  When the projects were complete we threw an "Museum Opening Party", complete with sparkling grape juice.
