INTASC Standard #6: The teacher uses knowledge of effective verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom. During my first Field Block experience I was in a kindergarten classroom. The students were gradually become very impolite and lazy. To counteract this problem I made up a big bulletin in the hall. After discussing ways to be nice to our friends and how to take care of the classroom I introduced them to the Shinning Star system. If I saw them doing something helpful and nice I would comment that action by writing on a star who and what the students did. The students was then presented with the star and was allowed to put it in the hall on the board themselves. They were so excited to receive these stars. This ideal was definitely a success!
