Robert Sutherland Born: 1757 Died: 1807 Father: Mother: From: "1785-1885 Nashwaak Families" Lieutenant Dugald Campbell, b. 1757 in Scotland, a descendant of the Campbells of Argyle. He was a surveyor and compiled the first map of Fredericton. He surveyed the grants given the 42nd Highlanders along the Nashwaak from Taymouth to the mouth of Cross Creek Stream. he had lots on both the Tay River and the St. John River. He married Jacobina Drummond, daughter of Donald Drummond and Ann Grosbeck. He died at Fredericton April 12, 1810 and he and his two daughters are buried at Fredericton. |

Robert, Jr Sutherland Born: 1782 Died: 1814 Spouse: Nancy Ann McCleod Children: Margaret Sutherland, James Sutherland, Roderick Sutherland, Charles Sutherland, Ann Sutherland From MacKinnon's book: Robert Sutherland (Jr) first drew a lot along the Nashwaak which, by 1795, he found "insufficient for the support of the numerous and increasing family." (Ref: PANB, RG10 RS108, Robert Sutherland, 1795) Sutherland's was a part of the 42nd Highland Regiment allotment, these lots being noted for small acreage. In 1809, Robert was granted lots 80 & 81 and Island 28 along the south side of the Miramichi River but there is no evidence he occupied the land. Robert and Nancy sold these lots in 1811 to a George Sutherland (PANB Archives). He married Nancy Ann McLeod (b. 1785) and possible children are Anne (1814), Margaret, and unnamed others. He died in 1814-1815, possibly at St. Mary's. nancy Ann then married John Casey and had a daughter, Sarah (1819-1906) who married James Young. From Sharon Hay. |
