Robert, Jr Sutherland Male Click to view the family tree

Born: 1782
Died: 1814   Killed by a falling tree according to Lowell K. Watson, ggrandson of James.

Comments: From MacKinnon's book: Robert Sutherland (Jr) first drew a lot along the Nashwaak which, by 1795, he found "insufficient for the support of the numerous and increasing family." (Ref: PANB, RG10 RS108, Robert Sutherland, 1795) Sutherland's was a part of the 42nd Highland Regiment allotment, these lots being noted for small acreage. In 1809, Robert was granted lots 80 & 81 and Island 28 along the south side of the Miramichi River but there is no evidence he occupied the land. Robert and Nancy sold these lots in 1811 to a George Sutherland (PANB Archives). He married Nancy Ann McLeod (b. 1785) and possible children are Anne (1814), Margaret, and unnamed others. He died in 1814-1815, possibly at St. Mary's. nancy Ann then married John Casey and had a daughter, Sarah (1819-1906) who married James Young.
