Marriage Notes:
Bert, the only surviving son of John and Rachel Bellamy (refer to their family history) was born in 1888 at Mayville, Michigan. In the year of 1890 the family came to the Cairo Community and he attended school in District #59 and the family lived on the Cox farm. As a young man met Elsie Whitefoot, it was a case of "love at first sight" and as an engagement gift he presented her with her very own horse and buggy.
They managed to survive the drought and depression by farming and Bert was also a barber. In time they purchased their own farm, what was called the old Hans Siek place. By having large flocks of chickens, milking cows and working long hours they prospered. Elsie was a marvelous cook and homemaker and Bert, hard working and industrious.
Bert and Elsie were the parents of three children: daughter, Maxine, and two sons, Elmer and George Burdette.
Bert and Elsie lived on their home place until Elsie became ill and they moved into the Lakeside Rest Home. Elsie died in Novermber of 1979 and Bert died in June of 1980. They are buried in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Cairo.
Bert related many stories to his family of his early life and one that is recalled by them is: while living on the farm as a lad of only eleven years, it was his job to deliver horses that North and Robinson had purchased for various people in the community and outlanding areas. He would take these Belgian horses as far north as Burwell.
